They've been part of my family for some 18 years, although you wouldn't know it lately!

I recently heard from Eloheim.info as we make our way from homosapiens to a status of homospiritus that our personal energy is drastically changing and everything in our lives is affected. Numbers, names, personal computer's, blackberry's, etc. So I wrote to eloheim and asked about pets, oh absolutely! Eloheim recommends that we tell our pets that we're still us even though our energy may seem entirely different to them.

Well, isn't this amusing! Here I was for weeks wondering what is happening with my bird's who are acting as if they've never seen me before! Biting me, pinching me, everyday was a battle. I immediately started adding bach remedies to their water, vine for anger and walnut for change.

Talking to them as Eloheim suggested is most definitely working...........have no idea why I didn't think to do this before!

Now Keltie has been with me since she was three weeks old. She's my little disabled bird, unable to fly and unable to perch. As far as she's concerned I'm her mother, period. So it was quite shocking that she wasn't recognizing me, although if my memory serves me I've already experienced this energy change scenario when I started working with Reiki many years ago. but it was in no way to the degree in which it's happening these days.

Change is upon us!

Our Loved Ones Are Always Close By

I can sense Gallagher around me all the time, unfortunately when this happens I feel a wash of sadness come over me because I miss him so much.

This feeling is not something that can be explained, it must be experienced. I remember the night that my grandmother passed away many years ago, her energy lingered in my room all night. At the time I was scared out of my wits but in retrospect I know in my heart that she was letting me know she was alright. I believe this is exactly what's happening with Gallagher. But it is a little disconcerting when I know he's walking across the bed!

I'm not the only one who knows! Fanny responds as well to Gallagher's coming and goings around the house. She actually perks up just a little and looks at me with this look of "do you know who's here?" Speaking of Fanny, I really think she needs a friend. She seems so lonely at times and I know she really misses her buddy, although I think she's really enjoying getting all my attention right now too. I do check on pet finder and the local humane society every once in awhile but my heart is just not ready. Of course when I'm ready I'll be looking to adopt a lhasa apso, I just like their attitude!

I came across a fantastic website the other day www.grannyearth.com , wonderful articles about growing herbs, using medicinal herbs, lots of really good stuff. I feel inspired so I think for my future posts I'll get back to my alternative pet care topics.

To combat stress I've been using Bach Rescue Remedy Cream, just rub a little on my arm each day and it really helps to keep me balanced. I've also been dabbing the cream on a wort that appeared on my arm and it's almost completely gone! I just learned that Bach has come out with a brand new remedy called Rescue Energy! I'm looking forward to trying this product, we could all use a boost of energy!

Animal Communication

I have a friend who is an intuitive and when she first met my lhasas, Gallagher & Fanny she said, "Gallagher is cool, like he did alot of drugs in the 60's and he's now totally zoned out wearing black sun glasses", Fanny on the other hand is skittish, on the edge, can be a little prissy and oh so willing to please. She was right on. But now Gallagher's energy is missing from our family and that leaves me and Fanny just a little unbalanced, as my energy is somewhere in between the both of them. This new time is providing me the opportunity to totally focus on Fanny for a change.

What I have found is that Fanny reads my thoughts! There's not a doubt in my mind. If I'm thinking it's bath day, Fanny disappears under the bed until dinner time. When I pull up in front of the house, there's Fanny waiting by the fence. Fanny is sitting by the front door before I even have my clothes on to go out the door.

For years I was so focused on Gallagher with all his various illnesses and needs that I believe I just wasn't hearing what Fanny had to say. Now she has me all to herself and she's talking up a storm! It's been my experience that animal's speak to us through telepathic images so we therefore speak to them in the same way! So if you're thinking bath and picturing yourself getting a towel, running the water and finding your pet to get washed, well you've just given your pet a complete visual of what your plans are! Pretty amazing stuff! If you're away from home and all of a sudden you find you're thinking of an empty water bowl, well your pet just sent you a message! It can also work in the negative, if you're thinking I hope Bo didn't have a doo doo accident during the day while you were working, well he probably did! Our pets are conscious and connected to us all the time. They don't have to wade through all the emotional muck that we've accumulated along the way. They are clear channels so to say and all they care about is us and eating! So watch your thoughts!

Recently I went to visit my son and both his cats were all over me and I just knew that they needed something and sure enough I found their water and food bowls empty! I guess the message is to start observing and you'll soon see that your animal's are talking to you too!

I have two quaker birds Shannon & Keltie who have been with me about 18 yrs and although no one else can understand their gibberish, I understand perfectly well. They also understand when I'm constantly telling them NO, like 2 yr olds!

In all seriousness I have participated in animal communication workshops and one of the exercises we did was to just sit with an animal for 30 minutes, just observing and writing down our thoughts. Then we were introduced to the pet's owner and we shared our thoughts and the owner either agreed or disagreed with the information received. Keep in mind sometimes it's hard for a pet owner to receive any negative comments about their loved one! I happened to sit with a very ticked off cockatiel and when I told the owner she adamantly refused, but later on she commented that her bird was mad at her because she had removed him from the room. This taught me to really believe in the initial impressions we receive and to not second guess ourselves. At first you may get only general information and you think it's just your mind playing games but if you keep up with the practice you'll soon discover latent abilities. It's best to practice with pets that are not yours and then to later work with your own animals. Let your imagination run full swing on this exercise, you'll surprise yourself!

So Gallagher came tromping across my bed the other night, I heard him, I felt him and he even did his turn around twice before settling in pressed up against my stomach. This of course is another topic, Our loved ones are always close by to us.

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all our special friends so they can run and play together. I just couldn't let Gallagher linger any longer, he had suffered enough.

Although his health was failing rather quickly, the deciding factor for me was when I truly felt the angels had come to take him home and he wanted to go. I was shocked that he wanted to go but I also knew that he was done with his failing body.

It was truly an amazing process and I am so glad that I was tuned into what was going on. Several times during the night I was awoken out of a sound sleep to find Gallagher sitting, staring at the ceiling, barking his head off. I would hug him, quiet him down and pull him close to me. But soon enough he was at it again. There is no doubt in my mind that he was being called.

On Sunday it seemed that I just couldn't settle him down at all. All day long he made his way out the doggie door and then I would find him by the gate, looking up at the sky and barking his head off. It was heart wrenching to say the least, for him and me. I could energetically feel the pull, he was being pulled from me.

My choice was to hang on or release him to the rainbow bridge. We had another tough night Sunday and by Monday morning I was convinced it was time to say goodbye to my best friend.

I thought I could do this on my own, but through uncontrolable sobs I called my son and asked that he take us to the vet. I still can't believe I went through with it, but my love for Gallagher was deep and I knew I had to give him the gift of peace. We did bring him home and he's buried near the house where I can be near him.

My heart and home are empty without him, my other lhasa Fanny has been moping right along side me. Gallagher was such a big part of both our lives. Life just isn't the same without him but I know we will meet again one day.

In memory of my beloved Gallagher.

My Gallagher

The last week has been difficult. I feel I will be making a decision very soon now and I suppose I'm preparing myself. Gallagher has really been out of sorts lately. I think he's just so frustrated by his inability to get around, his helplessness, his confusion and just old age. It's so hard for me to have to watch his final days. He'll always be just Gallagher to me, so proud and regal. Definitely a lhasa with an atiitude.

I realy want to go to sleep with Gallagher nestled up against me and wake in the morning to find he passed on during the night. That's what I really want. I can't even picture myself bringing him to the vet to be put down. I just don't think I have the strength to carry that out. But, I've always said I will not let him suffer and I will not.

Believe it or not he's still eating! No problem there. He just seems so much weaker lately, he whines all the time, 90% of the time I have to bring him outside as he just can't make his way around. What kind of life is this for him?

I wish this decision on no one. My heart is breaking, I'm already grieving and I haven't even considered life without Gallagher yet. Just the other day I found myself completely flustered and once I recognized what was happening I just took a few seconds to fully breathe to bring myself back into balance. Does this mean he's fighting to stay? That he isn't ready to depart yet?

Last night was a little tough as he woke up in the middle of the night with what sounded like these awful gasping sounds. First I made sre he wasn't choking on something and then I sat up with him, of course offering reiki to ease his discomfort. The gasping went on for quite awhile and then he quieted down. He returned to his typical sleeping mode nestled along side me.

Within an hour of my waking this morning there was Gallagher calling me with his "please get me down off the bed whine". Last week I couldn't get him out of bed until early afternoon and now he's up in the early am. He seems calm and relaxed when I'm near him, but when I leave his side he starts whimpering.

What is really getting to me about all his new hospice behavior is that Gallagher was always a very regal dog to the point of snobbish. Just the way he walked, head held high, his entire demeanor had an air of eliteness about him. So him whimpering, crying, needing constant assistance and the need to be protected from his sister's Fanny and Kiki are all new experiences for me. I'm sure you'll understand when I say I've become quite the protective mother hen and as I said in my previous post I have become most intune with his every need.

I have no idea what tomorrow will bring. Every day I question how long I should prolong his life. I daily analyze his quality of life. There's no measurement system that I'm aware of, other than what my heart tells me.
He's sleeping 23 hours per day and only awakens to eat at 5:00. He no longer interacts with his sisters Fanny and Kiki and he barely interacts with me. He's cranky most of the time wanting just to sleep, eat his dinner and sleep some more. Although at night he still manages to snuggle up against me. Gallagher was never very affectionate, more refined. But at night he always had to be next to me, touching me, coming close to me and he continues to do this.
Some months ago when he had a stroke I thought I would have to put him down. I wasn't ready and neither was he, and he made this perfectly clear when he rebounded within weeks. Every day I wonder if is he happy? Does he still want to be here even though he's blind, can't hear and dealing with the ravages of old age?
I already know that I'll know when it's time to say goodbye and I will not hesitate as I will not allow him to suffer unnecessarily.
Every morning I wake him from his deep slumber, carry him outside to the dog yard, bring him in and set him up on the couch with his favorite quilt. Late afternoon I rouse him again, bring him outside and as he lingers I get his dinner ready. His tail still wags when I put down his home cooked chicken for dinner. He eats, goes back outside, drinks some water and then wimpers a little by the bed to let me know that he's ready to be tucked in for the night. If I don't come to bed by 8:00 he gets antsy, wimpering and sometimes lets out a loud bark. Once I come in the bedroom he completely settles down, he just wants me there to cuddle up to. This has been our schedule for month's now.
I can't imagine life without Gallagher. I can't imagine not feelng him close to me at night. I can't imagine not seeing his tail wag at dinnertime. I knew that my dogs would be affected as well, so I'm treating myself & them at the same time.
According to Anaflora, Special Stress should be used to provide an animal relief when exposed to stressful situations that it does not understand, such as a human's relationship problems or work stress.
This is a much different application than Bach Rescue Remedy which would be used if there was stress caused by an emergency situation; accident, violent storm, hurricane or some other catastophic event.
I am also adding drops of Bach Gorse. These drops are to help my senior dog Gallagher who is having bouts of lethargy, apathy and low energy. Although all my dogs drink out of the same water bowl, the essences whether the other dogs need them or not will not hurt or harm them in anyway. If the essence is needed it will have an effect, if it is not needed it will not have an effect. This applies to all flower essences. If you choose the right remedy for the situation you should expect to see some results within a few days time. If you choose the wrong remedy there will simply be no effect. You cannot harm your animal in anyway.

Bach Rescue Remedy

Most animal lovers are familiar with and use Bach Rescue Remedy. For the simple reason that it works! I carry this remedy with me, have several bottles at home and keep one in my emergency kit. Because, it works! Rescue Remedy is used during emergency situations and for periods of high stress.
The Bach Remedies were developed by distinguished British physician Edward Bach(1886-1936). He developed his 38 healing remedies out of complete frustration with the practices of traditional medicine. The 38 remedies he believed could be used to remedy all known negative states of mind that afflict humankind and animals.
So, what are the remedies? These remedies are classified as "flower essences" and are made from flowering plants, trees and bushes. These essences would be considered part of an energetic healing technique, as the essences effect the energy field of the body.
As a young girl I use to try and make perfume with rose petals. Dropping the petals into water and letting them sit in the sun for several hours. I would then take the liquid and pour it into empty avon bottles and boom I had rose scented perfume. Well, not trying to sound glib, but that's how flower essences are basically made!
All I know is that these essences work. I've personally used them for years to control worry, anxiety, impatience, depression, etc. I've also used these essences for my animals by putting drops into their water bowls and they work.
In the case of Bach remedies, with the exception of Rescue Remedy which can be used right out of the bottle, the remaining 38 remedies are considered "stock" bottles. Meaning that you take an empty bottle, use a few drops of the stock remedy, mix with spring water and add just a wee bit of brandy as a preservative to make your very own remedy. You can add up to six different remedies in your own bottle.
Or, there are many, many other flower essence companies on the market. Specifically for animals I would highly recommend : www.anaflora.com or www.greenhopeessences.com , these companies have developed a line of flower essences, already mixed and specific to animals.
For further information about Bach(and if you have a little bit of a chemist in you): Great book, Bach Flower Remedies for Animals by Helen Graham and Gregory Vlamis

Jumpstart Your Energy

Jumpstarting your car battery to give it that extra burst of charge, well that's what Reiki does to your energy system. It's a jumpstart to open and clear your blockages so that you can be a clear conduit to channel Reiki energy. Do you need this jumpstart, absolutely not. If you are destined to be a healer than the universal life force energy will flow to you with or without Reiki, or any other hands on healing system. It may take you longer to work through your own personal blockages, but it can be done.
When I went for my Reiki I training I just new that I had to empower myself the fastest way possible. I'm not saying this is the way to go, it's the way that I chose. Getting my first Reiki attunement was sacred, foreign and beyond my sphere of thinking. Coming from a Christian background, I really had to separate from my religious upbringing to open into the mysteries of life. Reiki was everything I had read about. From the initial attunement where I felt as though my head was exploding, to being able to truly feel energies coming into and around me. Reiki I teaches about self healing, taking a thirty day personal journey into clearing the baggage out of your 0wn energetic body. WOW! Looking back it was a truly powerful experience. Connecting with your higher power - to me that power is God, other's call it source, spirit or the universe. Opening to guidance from your higher power. Heightened smells, intuition, compassion, sensing and empathic abilities are just a few of the gifts that appear along your journey.
Just like you can flood your battery, you can flood your energy body. During your thirty day cleansing you can experience a healing crisis, clearing too much too soon. It's just part of the process and well worth the experience. After your thirty days life will never be the same again. You have now embarked on a spiritual path and your growth will astonish you and those around you.

Reiki

Reiki is pronounced "Ray-Key" and comes from the Japanese words:
rei - meaning spirit and ki - meaning life force energy.
Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive energy healing system that yields powerful results for the body, mind and spirit. Reiki is not a religion or system of belief.
From personal experience I can tell you that Reiki will transform your life and you will find yourself aligned on a profound spiritual path.
When using Reiki to heal, the practitioner is actually a conduit who channels healing energy through his/her hands to the client either directly or from a distance. Animals, are quite receptive to Reiki healing energy and will let you know pretty quickly if they want hands on or distance treatments.
Western medicine continues to deal with the symptoms of disease and not the cause of disease. The main objective of Reiki is to heal, balance and harmonize the body, mind and spirit on an energetic level to assist in the prevention of illness before it manifests in the physical body. Reiki always flows to the source of the problem and always works for the highest good.
My dogs love receiving Reiki energy! They intuitively know that this healing energy will assist them, so they seek it out. Although all my dogs are quite affectionate, I can always tell the difference between them needing hugs and wanting Reiki energy. They basically will position themselves on me or next to me and not move until I've given them a treatment. My birds on the other hand are simply too high strung to relax into the energy, I will use distance healing for them when appropriate. I find there is no general rule as far as cats are concerned, either they will or won't accept hands on treatments and sometimes you can't even stay in the same room with them!
Learning the ancient, sacred art of Reiki was my introduction into alternative healing. This experience opened the door and led me into the world of many other alternative healing modalities for animals that I will discuss in detail in future posts.

For further reading: www.nccam.nih.gov
The National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine has information available on Reiki and Energy Medicine.

Riley's Story

It's truly heartbreaking to relive Riley's story, but it is through my experience with him that I began my studies into alternative healing for animals more than 10 years ago.
I knew pretty quickly that something was seriously wrong with one month old Riley, a lab/dalmatian mix. He would be friendly and playful, typical puppy behavior. Without any warning he would start attacking. After numerous trips to the vet, who was convinced that I was just not training Riley correctly, he suggested that I have a behavioral specialist come to my home.
The specialist and I sat on my living room floor for hours interacting with Riley and then it happened. He started attacking, completely unprovoked and completely unresponsive. The specialist reported back to the vet, and his recommendation was that I put Riley on lithium. This did not sit well with me at all, so off I went to consult a holistic vet.
After several weeks of testing it was determined that Riley had rage syndrome, a genetic illness found in dalmatians. While in attack mode he was actually having grand mal seizures. The vet tried homeopathics and traditional meds, but there was no change. As Riley approached 50 lbs, due to safety concerns, the vet and I decided to end Riley's misery. I was heartbroken to say the least, and felt angry and helpless. My anger propelled me into the world of alternative healing for animals, where I found Reiki.

Animal Healer

I consider myself an animal healer. The animals I have attracted into my life would be considered damaged goods, cast aways and strays. It took me several years to actually make the connection that I was an animal healer when I finally understood the continuing patterns of sickly and disabled animals appearing in my life.
healing - to make or become healthy, sound or whole
The animals that entered my life early on were my teachers and I the student. Well, it's not what's wrong with your pet, but it's what's wrong with you! Our pets are simply mirroring back to us our very own emotions in the only way they know how, by acting out. This is truly a life lesson that our pets are trying to teach us: our emotions impact our pets as well as others.
mirror - forms images by reflection
The first step for change is awareness. Whether interacting with our pets or humans, if we would only stop, take a breath and quickly put our emotions in check we would soon realize the positive rewards in all of our relationships.
consciousness - done with awareness or purpose
Being conscious is being responsible, this is no easy task. Be gentle with yourself, changing years and years of conditioning is not a simple undertaking. Start at home, leave your burdens at the door as you enter your sanctuary. You will immediately notice a difference in your interaction with your pets and other household members.

Pets As Kindred Spirits and Teachers

Actually, some of the best teachers in my life have been my pet companions.
